Before you begin

What you will be able to do

  • Describe and report a lasting change in a resident's mood, interest, sleep, eating or social contact in plain words, without naming a diagnosis, and treat talk of suicide as urgent.
  • Plan a resident's day around the person's own interests and choices, including free time and the right to say no.
  • Respect a resident's culture, language and faith in daily care by asking the person, not assuming from a group, within the RCFE nondiscrimination rules.
  • Apply California's LGBT residents' bill of rights to names, pronouns, rooms, restrooms, clothing, visitors, privacy and personal care.
  • Raise a concern about how a resident is treated with a factual note to a supervisor, and tell the resident about the Ombudsman, free from retaliation.
