The ALW waitlist, month by month

In March 2026, 15,910 people were on California's ALW waitlist and 14,831 were enrolled, according to DHCS. The waitlist fell from 20,262 in February, the first monthly drop since May 2025. At a California Senate budget hearing on August 12, 2026, DHCS said 17,886 people were on the waitlist and 14,495 were enrolled.

What the numbers say

Between January 2019 and March 2026 the waitlist went from 4,502 to 15,910 people, and enrollment went from 3,695 to 14,831. When Beta last checked, on October 16, 2026, the DHCS monthly file still ended at March 2026. DHCS gave newer statewide counts in testimony to the Senate on August 12, 2026. They are shown below as a separate source and are not part of the monthly series.
