What changed
The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) published the 2026 SSI/SSP amounts for people living in licensed care homes, in notice PIN 25-19-CCLD. SSI/SSP is Supplemental Security Income plus the State Supplementary Payment. The state calls this amount the Non-Medical Out-of-Home Care (NMOHC) payment standard. The 2026 figures took effect on January 1, 2026.

Of that total, the home may charge at most $1,444.07 a month for basic services. That is $706.07 for room and board plus up to $738.00 for care and supervision. You keep at least $182.00 a month for personal needs. CDSS lists room and board and care and supervision as separate parts, so the $1,444.07 is not all "room and board".

Residents who pay the home from SSI/SSP, their families, and the facilities and benefits staff who work with them.
What to do
If SSI/SSP is your only income, check that the home charges no more than $1,444.07 for basic services and that you keep at least $182.00. ALW pays the home separately for waiver care; that part never comes from you. See how the money works in 2026.
