What does the waiver pay in Los Angeles County?
The same as everywhere in California. DHCS pays the home a daily rate for care by tier, $95.69 to $270.80 a day in 2026, and the home may charge a resident who gets SSI/SSP at most $1,444.07 a month for room and board and basic services in 2026, leaving the resident at least $182.00 a month. The waiver never pays room and board. What ALW pays and what you pay, the 2026 rate sheet by tier, the 2026 SSI/SSP amounts.

Board and care homes in Los Angeles County that take Medi-Cal through ALW
254 of the Los Angeles County homes listed here are small homes of six beds or fewer, the kind many Californians call a board and care. The waiver pays the same daily care rate in a six-bed home as in a large community, and the resident pays room and board in both. The directory above marks each home's size. How board and care homes work with Medi-Cal.
Is there an open bed in Los Angeles County right now?
A listing is not an open bed. Homes report whether they are taking waiver residents on their own profile when they choose to, and that report carries its date. Once a person is enrolled, the Care Coordination Agency checks with homes directly. Nobody on this site can promise a bed.
Questions about the waiver in Los Angeles County
Does Medi-Cal pay for assisted living in Los Angeles County?
Only through the Assisted Living Waiver, and only for the care part: room and board is paid by the resident. 417 homes in Los Angeles County are on the DHCS list with an open licence, checked September 18, 2026.
How long is the ALW waitlist?
DHCS told the Senate budget subcommittee on August 12, 2026 that people leaving a nursing facility or hospital wait about 11 to 12 months and referrals from Adult Protective Services about 3 to 4 months. Everyone else waits longer, and DHCS releases openings by its priority order.
Can I choose any home on this list?
Yes, any participating home that has a waiver bed and can meet the person's needs. The Care Coordination Agency helps you look and cannot steer you to one home, and Beta never ranks homes.
What if Los Angeles County has no home that fits?
The waiver covers all of Los Angeles County and 14 other counties. The county page lists every city with homes on the list, and a person only has to be willing to live in a waiver county to enroll.

When did the state last visit a home on the list?
Each profile shows the date the state licensing agency (CDSS) last visited, from the CDSS license record checked October 17, 2026. The state record lists its inspections and any citations. Search CDSS Care Facility Search.
Does a home's license allow dementia or hospice care?
Each profile shows whether the license names dementia care and whether it has a hospice waiver, and for how many residents. Ask the home what care it can give today. What the license allows, and what to ask.
